What A Rare Find ! Jack And The Beanstalk Pattern Dishes

What A Great Rare Find ! Jack And The Beanstalk Pattern Dishes

I absolutely love going to estate sales, sometimes I can do a little research on some of the items coming up for auction before I get to the sale. Most of the time I buy on instinct this was one of those sales. Recently I attended a estate liquidation about 7 miles from my home.

In the early 1980's two sister that had been collecting a great deal of things over the years, decided to open a small Museum to display the many rare items that they had spent many years collecting. They opened the museum to the public. A couple years ago one sister passed away and recently the second sister passed, the whole estate including the Museum had to be sold.

I walked in to the Museum that day to check out all the items coming up on the auction block, because I like to have a list ahead of what I plan to bid on. In the corner displayed neatly on shelves this set of dishes just caught my eye. I had never seen such an amazing pattern and I did not recognize the mark on on the bottom, but do you know how, you just get that feeling, or call it a instinct, that there is just something very special about an item you find. Well I had to have them.

Not a lot of information is available about the maker L Batlin & Son Inc. But I did find out that they produced some really unique patterns in the 1930's - 1940's. The Jack In The Beanstalk Pattern being there most sought after highly collectible pattern. I just thought they were the most adorable and spectacular dishes I had ever come across in the last 15 years of going to auctions.

Here are a few pieces that I have on eBay

Look at the great Cookie Jar, it has jack sitting on top holding a cookie, the lid has been repaired, but hey, it is still great for display.
